Teaching of Turkish Language

Teaching of Turkish Language

Turkish Maarif Foundation attaches particular importance to the teaching of Turkish language and culture in order to introduce it into the world and to establish cultural bridges between various societies and the Turkish society.

In Maarif Schools, Turkish courses are in compulsory or optional course in the weekly hours prepared according to the official programs of the concerned countries. Created according to the international standards of language teaching, the teaching of Turkish is supported by extracurricular activities, club activities and activities aiming at the practical use of Turkish.

The Foundation aims to ensure the mastery of the Turkish language at B2 level among students graduated from high school. In this perspective, it grants students graduated from high school and mastering the Turkish language at B2 level the opportunity to pursue, with a scholarship, higher education in Turkey.

To clarify the level of mastery of the Turkish language, the Foundation takes as a reference the European Language Portfolio (ELP) and establishes a central examination for the Certificate in Turkish language which measures ELP qualifications.

Turkish Textbook Sets

Turkish Textbook Sets

Based on the Program, teaching materials were prepared for each educational level, containing all the tools and resources that systematize and structure the language teaching process for both teachers and students.

These textbook sets, designed with 21st-century language teaching approaches, consist of teacher's books, textbooks, and student workbooks. The core of structuring the language teaching process emphasizes student-teacher interaction in the classroom.

Within this framework, the teacher is viewed as an active guide and a facilitator of learning, and the teaching process is structured accordingly. Teachers bring real-life experiences into the classroom through drama-based games tailored to the students' age levels.

Curriculum-Based Readers

Curriculum-Based Readers

Interactive readers, aligned with the curriculum and compatible with the K12 textbook sets, are being developed to teach Turkish as a foreign language.

These readers, categorized into different language proficiency levels and age groups in accordance with the curriculum, contribute to teaching Turkish in a more systematic, enjoyable, and permanent way.

The Turkish Culture and Civilization course, implemented within the framework of the Secondary Education Turkish Culture and Civilization Course Curriculum, aims to introduce students to Turkish culture and civilization (art, literature, history, geography, etc.), thereby promoting intercultural interaction through cultural learning.

In this regard, the program seeks to equip students with the competence to establish connections between the target culture and their native culture on an intercultural level. It also aims to help students become familiar with the characteristics of another culture while preserving their own.

Turkish Diagnostic Test (TDT)

Turkish Diagnostic Test (TDT)

Turkish Diagnostic Test, assessing and evaluating the four core language skills, is administered in our schools.

The exam results are analyzed at the Headquarters, and then the results and analysis reports are shared with country representatives, school principals, and Turkish language teachers.

Secondary school and high school students who perform well in the Turkish Diagnostic Test are given a scholarship ranging from 5[199614101996] to 10[199614101996], based on the determined criteria.

Employment of Qualified Teachers

Employment of Qualified Teachers

Pre-service and in-service training is provided for Turkish teachers working in Maarif schools. The Turkish Teachers Orientation and Development Program is conducted during pre-service training.

In-service training includes both theoretical and practical training for Turkish teachers (employed by the Headquarters and/or local teachers). As a result of these trainings, Maarif schools continue to grow with their qualified teaching staff every day.

Drama and Play-Based Effective Communication Skills Curriculum for Bilinguals

The Drama and Play-Based Effective Communication Skills Curriculum for Bilinguals aims for bilingual children between the ages of 7-10 living outside Turkiye to enhance their ability to use their native language and facilitate their social integration within the community they reside in.

Through the curriculum and materials, the aim is to create learning and application environments that are relevant to real life using games and drama. The curriculum encourages children to experience communication-related skills, improve their Turkish language abilities and proficiency, develop awareness and sensitivity toward Turkish culture, and maintain healthy personal and psychological development. Ultimately, it fosters effective adaptation to both themselves and their surroundings.
