Cultural Diplomacy of Turkey and Turkish Maarif Foundation

Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, President of the Turkish Maarif Foundation, took part in the symposium on “Cultural Diplomacy and Turkish Maarif Foundation” organized by Yüzüncü Yıl University in Van.

Taking the floor at the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Akgün declared that the Turkish Maarif Foundation is the door of Turkey opening to the World.

Explaining that since 1990’s Turkey has started to establish its institutions abroad, Akgün added: “The mission of the Turkish Maarif Foundation is different from the others and not limited to give help or a scholarship to students, it aims to establish in different countries of the world institutions providing formal and informal education. We can observe that large countries with a global vision like us have similar training institutions.”

Noting that the Turkish Maarif Foundation is a public institution established by a special law, Akgün said: “Our activity field abroad is focused. We do not have any activity within the country. The important work on which we stand is giving priority to formal education. For a country with a global vision like Turkey, this Foundation should have even been established earlier.”

The Rector of the Yüzyıl University, Peyami Battal, said that the Turkish Maarif Foundation has an important activity abroad in the field of education. He explained that the educational activity abroad is fulfilled through the Turkish Maarif Foundation and expressed his pleasure to welcome the President of the Foundation, Prof. Dr. Akgun in Van. Faculty members and students participated in the program.

After the symposium, a cooperation protocol was signed between Yüzyıl University and the Presidency of the Turkish Maarif Foundation. The President Prof. Dr. Akgün and the Rector Dr. Battal signed the cooperation protocol during the program.
